Growing an Herb Garden in Pots

Container gardening is a great way to grow herbs. One reason is because herbs are quite easy to grow. One of the best uses for growing an herb garden in pots is culinary. Many cooks prefer to use fresh herbs, and what better way to get them than to snip a piece off a plant growing in your kitchen? Growing your own herbs is a wonderful way to have the perfect seasonings for all your foods and beverages. Herbs can be used for a variety of dishes and drinks. For example, oregano is perfect for spaghetti sauce, rosemary is great for chicken and chamomile makes a delightful tea.
The easiest way to grow an indoor herb container garden is with a kit. You will find a variety of kits for sale in garden shops and home improvement stores. Even stores like Target, Wal-Mart and K-Mart have gardening departments where you will find these handy kits from manufacturers like Burpee, Martha Stewart and Chia. The Chia Herb Garden is just as popular if not more so than the traditional Chia Pet these days. These kits come with everything you need to start a lovely herb garden. Many kits are made for culinary use, but some have other uses as well.
For example, you might find an all-purpose kit that features herbs like mint, sage, lavender, chamomile, oregano and parsley. If you have a cat you may want a garden especially for your feline which contains catnip and cat mint. Your kitty can walk up to the garden and nibble as he wishes. Outdoor cats often eat grass for their digestion, but indoor cats do not. Therefore, a cat safe herb garden is a great gift for your kitty. Another type of herb garden is a tea garden. Chamomile, lavender, lemongrass and mint are all commonly used to make tea.
These kits will come with complete instructions for growing an herb garden in pots. Of course, if you choose not to go with a kit there are plenty of books and web sites devoted to the subject as well. As far as where to place your indoor herb container garden, always go for a sunny spot. Most all herbs love lots of sun. One of the best things about a container garden is the plants can be moved to a more optimal location as needed.
